25 Apr 2008 - Newsletter no. 1

Dear Parents/Carers,

MESSAGE FROM THE HEAD TEACHER

I would just like to say a huge thank you for the wonderful welcome I have had from everyone at Samuel White’s Infant School.  I feel very privileged to be the Head and I look forward to working with everyone to make your child’s time at school a very special one.

BEDDING PLANTS

The Conservation area is looking superb thanks to a great deal of hard work by parents and friends of the school.

If, in the next few weeks, when you are buying bedding plants, you feel you had one to spare to send into school it would be so appreciated.  This will help to keep the school environment looking really attractive for everyone to enjoy.  Please give the plants to the Teaching Assistant in your child’s class.

However, there is still plenty to do in the school grounds so, if you are able to help, please pass your name into the office and we will contact you in the very near future.

MATHS/SCIENCE FORTNIGHT

For the next two weeks the children will be enjoying maths/science workshops in the morning with a theme of Healthy Minds and Bodies.  If any parent or helper is able to give up some time to help during the fortnight please pass your name to your child’s class teacher.

During the second week (6-9 May) we are looking for parents/helpers who work in the medical field who may be able to come in and talk to the children.  This is a valuable experience for them.  If you are able to help, please pop in and see Mrs McMahon.

LUNCHBOXES

A little reminder that fruit winders should not be sent in children’s lunchboxes.

BOOK SHOP OPEN WITH NEW STAFF!!

On Wednesday the book shop was open as usual with new staff managing the shop.  The newly appointed Y2 assistants were very polite and helpful to customers.  We would encourage you to pop in and look at the books at the end of the day on Wednesdays and give the children an opportunity to help you in any way they can.

Don’t forget that the uniform shop is open at the same time.  There are some super bargains to be had.

HELP WITH READING

We are very fortunate to have so many parents/helpers to come in to read with the children.  We would however like to have more help.  If you could give some time to do this please pass your name to the office and we will contact you.

FRUIT TUCK

Fruit tuck remains at 15p per day which should be brought in daily so that your child can go to the servery at break time to buy their fruit.

This is an excellent service provided by our on‑site kitchen.  Fruit is freshly prepared every morning into bite-size pieces – easy and very healthy for the children to eat.  Apples are available every day with a choice of two other fruit alongside.

RECYCLING – BRAS AND BOTTLE TOPS!!

We are once again collecting clean, plastic milk bottle tops.  The plastic lids are sold to a recycling company and the money raised will go towards the purchase of a wheelchair for a local child.

Also, please bring in to the office (or give to Mrs Fiona Cunningham) any unwanted old or new bras for recycling – any shape, size, quality or colour.  All proceeds to Breast Cancer charities.
